Shepherd University is latest WV university to receive NSF “S-STEM” award to offer STEM students scholarships and opportunities
Congratulations to Shepherd University and their faculty’s efforts to provide scholarships to students majoring in STEM at their university! Shepherd is a new recipient of an award from the National Science Foundation designed to provide scholarships to undergraduate STEM majors. The Shepherd Award will fund up to 52 students who elect to major in a degree program offered by the Department of Computer Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering (CME).
Other colleges and universities with S-STEM awards include Marshall University, West Virginia University, WVU-Tech and the University of Chalreston. Called “NSF Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics or S-STEM”, this program enables low-income, talented students to pursue a STEM major in eligible disciplines such as:
– Biological sciences (except medicine and other clinical fields)
– Physical sciences (including physics, chemistry, astronomy, and materials science)
– Mathematical sciences
– Computer and information sciences
– Geosciences
– Engineering
– Technology fields associated with the disciplines above (e.g., biotechnology, chemical technology, engineering technology, information technology)
