First2’s goal is to generate compelling, actionable information on how participating institutions can improve the success of first-generation and other underrepresented STEM college students. By working to better serve our most vulnerable students, we will improve outcomes for all students on participating campuses.

We are excited to have Blue Ridge Community and Technical College, Eastern Kentucky University, Fairmont State University, Glenville State University, Marshall University, Shepherd University, University of Charleston, West Virginia University, and WVU-Tech as campus partners in Spring 2024! All our campus partners host academic year programs for students including campus clubs and paid student positions.
Working in Partnership:
Membership and participation in First2 Network has significant benefits for first-generation STEM students, STEM professionals and allies of all ages. Knowledge-sharing with like-minded others in support of first-generation STEM students is a major benefit of participation in First2 Network.
Apply to be a First2 Campus:
Campuses join First2 Network as a way to test, improve, and share change ideas to improve retention of first-gen and underrepresented students in STEM. First2 campus partners are also eligible to receive financial support from the First2 Network. In 2024 we are inviting campuses to create concept papers that will be used to ask for supplemental funding for institutional teams. We welcome concept papers from campuses across West Virginia and in other EPSCoR states.

- CONFERENCES: Attend our conferences. First2 conferences are held twice per year – fall and spring. Our conferences bring together diverse stakeholders for networking, learning, and advancing the mission of the First2 Network.
