Support SB228
We all know that college affordability is an obstacle to completing a degree. And it is hard, if a student needs to leave temporarily for financial reasons. This bill will provide a one-year tuition and fee waiver to Americorps volunteers for each year of service they provide.
Here’s a link to a two-page handout. (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1td_xLq2CSuEKTawGPOJwxWxJLtPxqcUd/view?usp=sharing) Please consider writing letters to key representatives in the legislature to tell them why this bill if passed would be important to you, personally, or to your organization or place of work. It is probably best if you send a real post-marked letter, but a phone call will have impact also. Usually you leave a voicemail or talk to a secretary and all they want to know is one sentence about why this is important – what does Americorps do for our communities and how important it is to make college more financially accessible you! Whatever YOUR story is is the story that’s important. And it matters a great deal what the call tally is for support of a bill. Please see if you can get a handful of your friends and colleagues to reach out as well – and ask them to do the same.
