First2’s Rebecca Rutherford Delivered Hands-On Science Activities to Local Youth

First2's Rebecca Rutherford was selected for and took part in the Chemistry Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site at West Virginia University in summer 2019. As part of the Chemistry REU, Rebecca traveled to the Shack Neighborhood House to deliver hands-on science outreach to local youth (K-6th) attending the Shack's Summer Festival of Fun. Rebecca and her partner Trey Maddaleno, an undergraduate from Truman State University, worked with students to make sand that did not get wet (nanosand) using Scotchgard and craft sand. Rebecca is a chemistry major at Fairmont State University.

An article on the outreach can be found in WVU's ENews.
