PAID Summer Research Opportunities for Undergraduates

West Virginia University asks your help to encourage students, especially individuals who are underrepresented minorities, women, persons with disabilities, first-generation students and veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, to consider applying to the paid summer undergraduate research programs below. Typically, applicants should be rising Freshman to Senior standing, and have a strong interest in pursuing a research career after graduation. Applicants from primarily undergraduate institutions in West Virginia and the Appalachian region are especially encouraged to apply.

State-funded Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) at WVU: Applications are open and due before March 2, 2022. This is a paid, 8-week, full-time immersive research opportunity with a WVU faculty research mentor. Applicants should have an agreed upon relationship with a faculty research mentor upon submitting the application. Contact undergradresearch@mail.wvu.edu for assistance with finding a faculty research mentor.

NSF-funded 2022 Research Experiences for Undergraduates: Applications for our 2022 Sites are open. Details about each REU Site and how to apply, can be found at the link provided. The following REU Sites are available: Chemistry REU, Robotics REU, Behavioral Science REU, Astrophysics REU. In addition, other summer programs are: Cancer Institute Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, Summer Undergraduate Vision Research Fellowship, and WV-INBRE Summer Research Program

Thank you for your continued support of WVU undergraduate research programming. Questions about any of the above programs can be directed to the WVU Office of Undergraduate Research (undergradresearch@mail.wvu.edu) directly.

    1. As indicated on the WVU SURE website: “Contact SURE@mail.wvu.edu with questions about finding a faculty research mentor. We can help.” We cannot help every single one of the applicants who apply to the SURE program to find a faculty research mentor, but we can and do help those who reach out. We have a list of faculty who apply to the WVU SURE program with no student selected for their research project and we assist students in making those connections. However, applicants must reach out to us before the applications are reviewed. We also email students who apply with no faculty research mentor and offer them assistance in finding a mentor.
