Brain Camp

The WVU Department of Neuroscience & Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute are pleased to announce the second annual Brain Camp, July 12th – 18th, 2020! The co-ed, overnight summer camp is open to high school students entering 11^th & 12^th grade.

• Cost of Camp: $700 (Limited financial aid may be available upon request)
• Brain Camp is limited to 30 campers
• Brain Camp will be based on the West Virginia University Health Sciences Campus in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Students will attend presentations and demonstrations by the Department of Neuroscience faculty and graduate students. Brain Camp will provide students a unique opportunity to learn about a wide range of topics including:

• Basic lab safety and the scientific process
• Research ethics
• Neuroanatomy (yes, there will be brains!)
• Effects of light at night
• Addiction and drug use
• Impacts of stroke, cognitive aging, brain plasticity, and traumatic brain injuries
• Rodent behavior models
• Human neuro-psych testing
• Real-time neurophysiological assessment for improving human performance
• Motion capture and computer simulations of the human body
• And more…

All students will stay on campus in a WVU residence hall (Oakland Hall) for the week under the supervision of graduate and undergraduate male and female staff members. Housing, meals, and transportation will be included, as well as all evening programs and social/team-building outings, including: a tour of the WVU campus, use of the WVU Recreation Center, and a WV Black Bears game!
