Summer Professional Development
K-12 Teacher Immersion
We know from attending the STEM Learning Ecosystem just how critical middle and high school teachers are in the STEM career pathway. The vast majority of students decide by the end of middle school whether they are pursuing a STEM career pathway. High school students report that their classroom teachers are the most important people for college and career advising. Many teachers have not had the opportunity to spend time outside of the classroom, immersed in research, STEM careers, and field-based programs.
The First2 Network supports middle and high school teachers to spend time in the summer immersing themselves in innovative programs and partners endorsed by the First2 Network for excellence in hands-on STEM experiences. Both formal (in-school time) and informal (out of school time) teachers are eligible to apply.
This program provides a stipend and travel for teachers to spend 2 weeks learning in a summer program or shadowing in an industry setting to learn more about the reality of STEM careers. Teachers will spend 2 weeks learning hands-on, alongside students, industry professionals, or higher education faculty and staff.
