  • Biography

    I am a Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics and Director of Strategic Research Initiatives at Shepherd. My research focus areas include the large-scale structure of the universe and the history of astronomy. I served as Shepherd’s Natural Sciences Teaching Specializations Coordinator for a decade, and have been a member of the National Advisory Committee for the PRAXIS Earth and Space Sciences Examination. I currently oversee the campus observatory and the university’s Pulsar Search Collaboratory Hub.

    (1) How does one identify the confounding factors leading to lowered persistence success for first-generation students? (2) What pedagogical modifications to first-year courses have been shown to be successful in increasing STEM retention?
